Emotions ran high as several local firefighters, police officers, state troopers and EMS personnel took time from their busy schedules to view the 9/11 First Responder Tribute Truck, which made a three-day stop during its lengthy U.S. tour at the KICKER Visitors Center.
The 2011 custom Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD crew cab is draped in stunning images of the Sept. 11th first responders, most of whom heroically gave their lives during the call to duty. It also includes other memorable images from that infamous day, as well as symbols of American patriotism. Legendary air-brush artist Mickey Harris is responsible for the spectacular illustrations.
The Silverado was unveiled during the 10th anniversary, 9/11 ceremonies at Ground Zero in Manhattan, and then again was viewed days later at the Pentagon. It also spent several weeks at the recent Texas State Fair.
Inside the Visitors Center, local civil service personnel viewed footage shot by KICKER employees present during the New York City unveiling, and then watched as the protective covering was removed from the truck. Police lights and patriotic music set the somber moods of all those who stood in awe. KICKER training specialist John Myers installed the aftermarket audio system, unique because of its location both inside and outside the vehicle.
